CASTLETON'S MISSION
8/10/1997 to 23/12/2006
Memories from the Owners and Fans

Losing a horse like Mission is like losing a part of the Family.
We had looked forward to him coming home for his retirement.
However,I remember when we prepared him for the 1999 Yearling Sale and Tom Behrns saying to me "dont sell him you will never get his true
worth in the sale ring". If we had sold Atomic Knight then Mission would have not been sold - not to be. I am, now, so pleased that we sold him as Mission, has touched  so many people and provided so much enjoyment. Straight after the Sale, we found out that Mike Gourdie had bought him and was going to Syndicate him, so we took a share straight there and then.
I told Mike that day, if Mission didn't win races the he could have another one for free. The 2yo Sires Stakes win was a great way to get out of a bet !  It was indeed an honour to have bred such a good horse.
To Mission, Michael House and all the Syndicate Members, thanks for the memories. They may fade but will never be forgotten

I sat in the drivers room at Alexandra Park where Mission was racing and said it doesn't get better than this. Micheal said if that is what you think then get out now. You have to be looking for the next champ but how I feel today there will never be another Mission. My favourite place on the racecourse is down at the boxes with the horses and I was lucky enough to be a part of Team Mission - thanks for the memories!

Great saddness for you all. The mission never deserved this he gave so much pleasure on the race track and no doubt to all the people connected to the horse.

Horses like him generally only come around once in our lifetime, and the thrills and enjoyment will no doubt remain with you forever.
In my humble opinion,of all the trotters raced in the last thirty years, only Scotch Tar,back in the late 70's,would have had the explosive speed over 200 metres that your bloke had.
Your sadness is shared by heaps of racing followers, and I do hope that the spirit of Christmas will be able to enjoyed in some small way.

We will never forget the friendly battles we had on track together. Hopefully they are racing together again in the big racetrack in the sky.
The memories will remain forever

Will never forget that first up Addington win, at long odds, when he looped the field; or the Inter Dom final which looked his but was snatched from him by the photo finish.
Or, rather eerily, the friendly looks we exchanged at his new barn, as though we were somehow, old buddies.
I didn't think I could get lumpy throated and misty-eyed over a horse- until now.

the night he beat Lyell at Addington after burning 800 mtrs out proved he was up there with the best.....and Mickey's salute in the Interdominion Final was an absolute classic and worth a photo on the wall with Take A Moments name and his reversed!
